For older adults retired and not so retired!

First Friends is our church’s vibrant ministry for older adults. Activities planned target our almost retired, just retired, and considerably retired members and friends. The ministry goal for First Friends is “to focus on the spiritual and social needs of our senior adult members, and to connect the senior adults with one another and with the church family for fellowship, service and personal growth.” We recognize that older adults approach the later years in a variety of ways, and we seek to be sensitive to the broad range of activities that might be appropriate in this ministry.

Communities of Belonging

  • Tuesdays, October 29, November 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2:00 P.M.

We will use a study guide called Godspeed. It features writers like N.T. Wright and Eugene Peterson, discussing the need for us to slow down and take time to know one another and be known by one another. Hal Sauer and Brenda Geise will be leaders.

Daytrip to Pinewood Kitchen and Mercantile

The church bus will leave the church at 9:30 a.m. and return 3:00 p.m. RSVP Tuesday, November 5.

Thursday Luncheon/Program

  • Thursday, November 21, 12:00 p.m.
  • Courtenay Hall.

The program will be presented by our own Mike Hindman who will share his testimony, as well as show remarkable pictures from the recent church mission trip to Kenya. RSVP Monday, November 18.

Book discussion of Denise Kiernan’s The Last Castle, the story of the Vanderbilt’s building Biltmore Mansion and contributing to the development of the entire area around Asheville, NC.

Christmas Event: Franklin Holiday Lights Trolley Tour

  • Friday, December 6, 5:45-7:45 p.m.
  • The Factory, Franklin

We will take the church bus from the church to The Factory in Franklin, leaving church at 4:00 p.m. and returning around 8:00 p.m. At The Factory, we will board the private trolley which has 30 seats. RSVP as soon as possible with $20 payment.
